How to Take Amazing Sunglass Selfies for Instagram

How to take the best Instagram Selfies on AmericanSunglass

Whenever you buy a great new pair of sunglasses, you know you want to show them off to your social network! But after taking a few selfies, you may be wondering why you can’t get the perfect shot.

We’ve gathered the best tips to get you taking great selfies every time while sporting your favorite sunglasses.

  1. Make Sure You Have the Right Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

You can’t take a great selfie if the sunglasses aren’t flattering on you. So make sure you know what styles are best for your face shape before you go shopping.

 Here’s a quick guide:

  •  Oval face - This is the most versatile face shape. You can usually wear any type of sunglass style.
  • Round face - Oversize or angular frames are the most flattering - including wayfarer, square, cat-eye, or oversize sunglasses.
  • Heart-shaped face - Frames that are wider at the top than the bottom are the most flattering - including wayfarer shapes, cat-eye, and aviator sunglasses.
  • Square face - Rounder shapes flatter this face shape - including aviators or round lenses.
  1.  Don’t Look Straight Into the Sun

Even if the sunglasses hide your squinting eyes, the rest of your face will be scrunched up as well.

Try to keep the light indirect so that you can relax your face, smile, and look like you’re having a great time!

  1. Tilt Your Head Down

This is a great tip to minimize glare on the lenses. You want to make sure that your glasses don’t catch a direct ray of light. If you tilt your head down, the light won’t hit the glasses and create that annoying glare.

  1. Try Backlighting

Usually photographers advise against backlighting, but this can be a good technique when wearing sunglasses or glasses. The backlighting will eliminate glare. And if you catch the sun lower in the sky, you can create a pretty sunflare or starburst.

This can be especially nice when posting a vacation pic with a great background of a beach, a mountain, or a city skyline.

  1. Be Careful With Mirrored Sunglasses

Mirrored sunglasses look great, but be careful about what will be reflected in your sunglasses! If you do the traditional selfie pose, holding your arm out in front of you, the sunglasses will most likely reflect your hand and camera in the photo. Try for angles that won’t catch your arm in the reflection. Or consider asking a friend to take the photo for you!

  1. Pick an Interesting Background & Keep the Horizon Straight

This goes for any selfie, but a beautiful or interesting background makes any selfie better! If you’re on vacation this can be easy. Pick a nice natural area, a place with a view, a city street, or some nice architecture.

If you’re not on vacation, you can still find great backgrounds! A colorful wall is an excellent and easy background. It makes any photo pop. Or consider taking a photo in front of a mural, graffiti, or in front of art.

Just be sure to keep the horizon straight! This makes any selfie more pleasing to the eye.

  1. Smile!

Since your friends and followers won’t be able to see the emotion in your eyes behind your sunglasses, be sure to smile! This will make you look less severe and convey the emotion and personality you’d normally see in a sunglasses-less selfie.
