It’s a well-known fact that Rihanna is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She was the youngest and fastest solo artists to earn fourteen number one singles on Billboard’s Top 100.
She was born in Saint Michael, Barbados on February 20, 1988. She grew up listening to reggae. She entered into the music industry in 2003 and soon landed a recording contract with Def Jam Records in 2005. In 2006, she topped the charts with the hit singles"Pon de Replay" and "SOS".
She won her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay Z in 2008 for the well-known song, “Umbrella”. She has won eight Grammy Awards, twelve American Music Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, two Brit Awards, and the inaugural Icon Award at the American Music Awards of 2013.
Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) in 2012, in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. Programs include the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, and education programs. She also raises awareness about how to combat HIV/AIDS, donates to Cancer, Children’s Orthopedic care and gave a food bank donation to Hurricane Sandy victims.
She is also widely recognized for frequently reinventing her style and image and has an unapologetic sense of style... but she has certainly earned the right.
